Scientists using an observatory in Chile have discovered an Earth-like planet, 11 light years away from our own.
Dubbed the "Ross 128 b", it's thought its warm, rocky environment may support life.
The new world was found after more than a decade of intensive space monitoring.
The planet can't be observed directly, so it's hard to say whether an atmosphere or water exist. However, it gives scientists important clues about potential life outside our solar system.
Al Jazeera's Andy Gallacher reports.
